First Gem from Sabatini to Roma

Sabatini usually does it perfectly. His contacts, promises and eyes for youth deliver. He has seen something in Lamela that he has flown to Argentina to have talks with agents. Reportedly it is a 12 million deal, with the player getting a million per year salary. Nothing is official till now, but things look quite positive.

At the age of 19, Lamela definitely looks to be a long term prospect. Playing as a treqaurtista, he will be able to gain valuable experience from maestro Totti. It also points out that Roma will be entering into a new era looking to brighten their future. This news has cooled down Pastore prospects as well.

Erik Lamela is a natural left foot. Playing as a classic trequartista, he could play in wider positions as well. He has a left foot for set pieces and hence he’s an important player for River Plate at the time. So a nice start to mercato if it is official. The player has energy, talent and vision. He's got that never back down attitude. He could be a master stroke as he has proved with his time at River plate. Breaking into first team just 8 months ago, he has cemented his place as a key player. He has got it all to be a big name.

Last week, Chelsea sacked Ancelloti. He revealed that he would love to remain in England even if he has to manage a 2nd division club. It’s painful to see, but if Ancelloti doesn’t come now, he should never come! It is the perfect time to make a new start with his beloved Roma.

Carlo Mazzone, the Roman legend, has also backed Ancelloti to be the new coach for Roma. He revealed that the former Chelsea and Milan boss will be best as Roma have new aims and objectives. The club icon Totti has also called for Ancelloti to be the man for the job.

In another news, Juventus signed Andrea Pirlo on a free transfer from Milan. I hoped that he would have joined Roma as his experience and style of play along with De Rossi could have given a new dimension to the midfield.

Some videos for Lamela, and hope we see him in Giallorosso colours.

A week of sheer distress

Having exams, double work at office, losing my girl, and most importantly, Roma loosing the champion’s league spot!! A hell of a week for me!!

It was stressful watching Roma loose in such a pathetic way. Poor display. No midfield, no attack, no team energy. It just sums up the season. The team needs major changes. It would probably be the last time we see this Roma against Sampdoria in the last match of the season.

The only good thing I see is Bielsa linked to the coaching seat. He has a hell of experience, about 20 years. He plays a 3-3-1-3 system, fast fluid football. Something Roma fans haven’t seen from long. It is reported that Sabatini will hold a meeting with the former Chile and Argentina coach. It would be nice getting him, but importantly, Seria A teams tend to play counter attacking football. He will surely need good players in playing such a formation.

Chile qualified for the second round during the world cup under him. He surely will bring some eye catching football to the Olimpico. Lets see what happends.

Will sum up the season in next post, so stay tuned.

Bye Bye Coppa Italia

Another trophy-less season for Roma, though they showed what they could be in the second half, yet it could be easily sensed that this team requires up gradation in some departments.

The match ended 1 all, with Inter cementing its position in the final. They will be playing against Palermo, who defeated the newly Seria A champions AC Milan. Juan and Burdisso looked to be at their top game; however, Menez needs to leave in summer. Undoubtedly talented, but things between him and Montella are not working in the teams favor.

First of all, what Roma needs to do is to get an experienced coach. They cant win trophies under Montella, who is just new to the coaching world. His main contribution will be grabbing the fourth champions league spot. They need to get some one experienced. There are rumors about Mazzari leaving the Napoli camp, while if availed, Ancelloti will be welcomed with open arms to the eternal city.

Roma needs to work on searching a reliable goal keeper this summer as well. Don’t know what Montella has seen in Doni. Seeing Doni between the sticks is just like an approaching heart attack. Buffon had been linked with Roma for a while, but Frey could prove to be a clever move.

Next up, wing backs need to be addressed. Riise has tremendous work rate and energy, but he is usually slow against speedy players. The central defending partnership looks settled with Burdisso and Juan. The certain departure of Mexes will leave a big question mark and some one like Kjaer will be an ideal replacement for both short term and long term.

With continuous link of Pastore, midfield looks to be good. However, acquiring another defensive midfielder could make the defense look a lot better. Some one like Drenthe could prove to be a vital cog in the midfield.

Finally, in the attacking department, both Totti and Boriello can’t play together. They are no mobile, they are no runners. The team lacks energy when they are on the pitch together. G. Rossi would be a dream move who could certainly add favorites tag to the club.

How ever, Roma needs to bring up young players with experienced ones as well. The next match will be up against Catania. Anything less than a victory will see us out of the chapions league.

Forza Roma

Scudetto Celebrations at Olimpico..... But for the Visiting Side......

Roma drew its match against AC Milan. It proved to be a feast for the Milanese giants. They were crowned the Seria A champions after 7 years. Nevertheless, the Roman defenders played magnificently. They did not allow the big Swede Ibrahimovic to score. Things looked good especially for Juan, who looked at his top form. His partner in defense, Burdisso was exceptional as well. Not mentioning Cassetti’s performance will be a crime in these scenarios. He looked up, ran and then came back, then looked up, ran and came back. Game well played.

Roma forwards too had a good game. Totti looked his usual self with his clever flicks and through balls. Vucinic was short of confidence as he missed a glorious opportunity to score. The midfield was a thing to worry. To be a champion, you need to boss the midfield. Roma failed to do so as their inevitable duo of Daniel De Rossi and Simone Perotta were absent due to suspensions.

A word of praise for the Milan defense as it worked as a wall. The central defending partnership of Silva and Nesta was everywhere.

Few words need to be mentioned for some concerns rising in Roman camp. De Rossi looks really out of form, out of senses and out of control. Elbowing twice a season and getting suspensions isn’t a sign of a player of De Rossi’s caliber. He needs to motivate and move out f the troubles. Surely hard times for capitano futuro.

Race for the fourth space looks quite interesting and tight. Roma will be visiting Catania next week. Till then, enjoy the highlights of the match.

Congrates to all Milanista's for clinching their 18th title.

From Club Icon to Legend…All Hails to Totti

Have you ever wondered what would have happened if Francesco Totti was recalled for the 2010 World Cup? In case you don’t know, he topped the list for the most number of assists in the previous world cup when Italians held their heads high claiming the champions tag.

In the match against Bari, the Roman Icon yet again proved why he is so important to the club. Roma went to win the game by 2 goals to 3, but it was only for their talismanic captain who scored twice in the hard fought match. Totti surpassed another legend Roberto Baggio by scoring 206 goals in Seria A.

After the match, Totti wore a shirt that read “The King of Rome is not dead and he will never die”. Only a few clubs in today’s game get such icons.  Next target for the Roman King will be Giuseppe Meazza and Jose Altafini with 216 goals, which is quite achievable.

Totti made his first senior team debut after spending three years with the youth team. He was 16 at that time. He was named as the captain in 1997. He scored 13 goals playing as a trequartista in 2001 when Roma won the league under Fabio Capello’s managerial skills.

Till now, the Captain has helped Roma on numerous occasions. Totti is working for the welfare of children as well since joining UNICEF as a welfare ambassador in 2003.

Apart from the King of Rome, Roma have been linked to yet another name, his time Kranjcar from Premier League. We'll ave to wait till the summer transfer market to see who really comes in and goes out.
Forza Roma!
